Holiday Wisdom - The Massive Jamaica

As we embrace this holiday season in the midst of the global pandemic there are many things to think about that have to do with our safety, security, mental health, and yes, our bellies.

Christmas is traditionally a season for giving, and an influx of economic activities are expected around this time. But how do consumers ensure that they are getting the best bang for their buck?

Be very conscious about your spending

The number one way to get the most value for your money is shopping as if you are spending your last dollar. So take the time to do due diligence, do your research and compare prices.

If you are buying things online read the reviews as this will provide you with some insight regarding the items you’re buying. If you still have concerns talk to an objective family member or an expert to help with making your buying decisions.

Don’t splurge on your holiday bonus

Traditionally many companies hand out bonuses around the Christmas period. Now, you may be thinking that this is the perfect opportunity to spend lavishly. You might want to reconsider.

Others may think it’s the perfect opportunity to do home renovations, however, proper goals should be set, budgets made, and spending done accordingly.

Why not have a holiday potluck?

An alternative given the impact of the Global Pandemic can also be having a potluck dinner. Groups can come together to contribute to the Christmas dinner so the brunt of the expense doesn’t just fall on one household.

Maybe skip buying new decorations this year

Finally, as Jamaicans we tend to go hard with the Christmas décor.

We have Christmas lights flickering day-in-day-out, and we invite several persons over for Christmas dinner with all our TVs on, and the children playing PlayStation or Xbox, no doubt.

Some ways to save on your electric bill could be to assign a monitor for electronics, and set a time that the decorative lights should be plugged out. You should also monitor your appliances and try to do all your baking in one go.

Oh, and don’t forget to restrict the number of visits into the refrigerator.
