The platform lets organisers publish event information in one place for free, while helping people discover conferences, expos, workshops and other experiences across Jamaica.
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaican event technology company Binge Island has launched Jamaican Event Guide (JEG), an online platform helping organisers publish and share their business and professional events, and helping people discover opportunities to learn, connect and participate.
Available at https://jamaicaneventguide.com, the platform gives organisers a dedicated event page where they can bring their event information together, maintain the details and share one link with their audience. Organisers can sign up and publish their events for free.
For prospective attendees, JEG brings conferences, expos, workshops, meetups and other business and professional experiences into one place, covering both in-person and virtual events.
Built from experience on both sides of events
Jamaican Event Guide grew out of Founder and CEO Brian Lawrence’s experience coordinating technical production for conferences, workshops and church services, alongside his own interest in discovering events to attend.
“I started building Jamaican Event Guide because I wanted to use it myself,” said Lawrence. “When you’re working on an event, you need somewhere to bring the information together and give people one place to find the details. Then, as someone who wants to attend events, you want to know what’s happening without having to piece everything together from different posts and messages.”
The platform addresses a challenge that affects both organisers and attendees: essential event information can become scattered across flyers, social media posts, websites and messages. Organisers repeatedly answer questions, while prospective attendees search for the information they need before deciding to take part.
JEG gives organisers a central page to direct people to, while making those events discoverable beyond their existing audience.
Open for organisers and attendees
The platform is now welcoming organisers to create accounts and publish their events. People looking for events can explore available listings and follow the registration or attendance instructions provided by each organiser.
JEG’s current focus is event publishing, information and discovery. Publishing an event on the platform is separate from selling tickets or processing payments.
Lawrence is also building the platform in public, sharing its development and inviting users to help shape its direction.
“I’m opening it up for other people to use because I know these challenges aren’t unique to me,” Lawrence added. “I want organisers to try it with their own events and tell us what works, what feels confusing and what would make it more useful. That feedback will help shape what we build next.”
Jamaican Event Guide forms part of Binge Island’s focus on building practical technology for event organisers, drawing on experience developing websites, applications and tools alongside hands-on event production.
Organisers can sign up and publish their events, and prospective attendees can explore upcoming experiences, at https://jamaicaneventguide.com.
